Celtic fans have witnessed a number of quality players wear the green and white Hoops over the years.

From as far back as the Lisbon Lions, Jimmy Johnstone, Billy McNeill, Tommy Gemmell and Bertie Auld were all players Celtic supporters would rate as world-class.

In fact, every member of that legendary Celtic side could easily be afforded that status.

Coming back to the modern day, Henrik Larsson, Lubo Moravcik and Shunsuke Nakamura are another three former Celtic stars who could easily grace any team in world football.

And it appears that one Celtic hero who left Parkhead back in 2015 has been given the ultimate compliment after Ally McCoist and Gabby Agbonlahor named him in their 2025 World XI.

Celtic hero Virgil van Dijk named in 2025 World XI

Virgil van Dijk was an absolutely class defender over his two seasons at Celtic. A move to Southampton opened up his transfer to Liverpool and since then, he has never looked back.

After winning the Premier League with Liverpool, Agbonlahor and McCoist have named the Dutchman in their 2025 World XI.

Agbonlahor said on talkSPORT, “I’ve gone for goalkeeper, Donnarumma, right-back Hakimi, left-back Mendes.

“Centre-half I’ve gone for Pacho and Van Dijk. Pacho from PSG was outstanding last season. Centre midfielders I’ve gone for Vitinha and Pedri, Kvaratskhelia off the left, Mo Salah off the right, Mbappe on his own as a striker, and then behind him, Dembele.”

McCoist replied, “I’m going with Donnarumma. Full-backs. I don’t think it’s up for debate. Hakimi and Mendez. Two centre-backs, I’m going with van Dijk, with a centre-back partner of Marquinhos.

“My midfield, I’m just not messing about. I’m just going for the three PSG players. I’m going Fabian Luiz, Vitinha and Neves.

“And the strikers, I’m going Dembele through the middle, Kvaratskhelia and Yamal.”
