Aaron Mooy has given a glowing verdict of his first few months at Celtic, declaring it as one of the best moves he’s ever made in his career.

The Australian international is off to the World Cup with his country in Qatar after finding fitness and form under previous national team manager Ange Postecoglou at Celtic.

Mooy has undoubtedly had good and bad performances in a Bhoys shirt, but towards the end of the first block of matches had definitely started to find domestic consistency.

He’s been left overjoyed by the move, praising the club and fans enormously in the media this week [The Herald]: “It was a tough time when I was training in a local park in the summer. I was back home from China and with my family so there were positives there. But I wasn’t playing much football. But then I joined Celtic and I’m loving it here and I’m going to the World Cup. It’s fair to say Celtic is one of the best moves I’ve ever made.

“It’s just an amazing club and the fans are incredible. It’s a demanding club but you want to be testing yourselves in these kinds of situations. Playing for a big club is demanding. I just want to give my best. I’m just trying to soak it all in as much as I can.

“I joined Celtic later in the summer and I agree with the manager when he said I can only get stronger the longer the season goes on. As a professional footballer that’s what you want to do. You always want to improve and I’ll be trying my best to do that.”

Mooy’s presence has definitely helped in the absence of captain Callum McGregor. A midfield three of Matt O’Riley, Reo Hatate and Mooy got us through some tricky matches.

The Australian registered assists against both Hibernian and Hearts, also playing a prominent role in wins over Livingston and Motherwell.

What awaits him long-term at the Bhoys remains to be seen but if he has a good World Cup, he will be particularly well-positioned to return to Glasgow with confidence and push for more regular minutes in the remainder of the season.
