‘An asset’ – Chris Sutton backs under fire £3 million man to come good

Celtic legend Chris Sutton is refusing to give up hope on Hoops left-back Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo. He feels that the former Rapid Vienna can be a good player for the Hoops despite a difficult start to his Hoops career.

He didn’t play at all well in the recent 1-1 draw with Cluj. However, Sutton has not given up on the player.

“I wouldn’t be writing off Bolingoli, despite him having a stinker” Sutton said, as reported by the Daily Record.

“I wouldn’t go over the top in slaughtering Bolingoli. He’s not had the best of starts, but he can still turn out to be an asset.”

Bolingoli has struggled defensively for the Hoops since completing his £3 million move from Rapid Vienna.

There is still time to sort that though. Especially when you consider that with the exit of Kieran Tierney, he is the only natural left-back in the squad.

Therefore, until another left-back is signed, it looks like Bolingoli will be a regular for the Hoops. Neil Lennon and the Celtic staff will no doubt be working with the player in training to improve the defensive side of his game.

Bolingoli looks excellent going forward for the Hoops, so you know that there are good elements to his game. He showed that side of his game in the 5-2 win over Motherwell. He came agonisingly close to scoring, and provided an assist for James Forrest’s goal.

It isn’t really fair to compare the player to former Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney. Tierney was a very special player. Bolingoli can still be a good player for the Hoops, but he has to work on some aspects of his game. Sutton is right though, it is too early to give up on him.
