Andy Halliday is put straight as he tries to pour cold water on Celtic’s deal to sign Jeffrey Schlupp

Jeffrey Schlupp is set to join Celtic from Crystal Palace on loan.

The Ghanaian international will become Celtic’s second transfer addition of the January window after the Bhoys signed Jota from Rennes last week.

The Portuguese winger was signed for just over £6m and now, Schlupp will make the January move to Celtic after Fabrizio Romano said a ‘verbal agreement’ had been agreed in London tonight.

But it seems that whilst the news will be greeted by the Hoops support, Andy Halliday is not too pleased as he tried to pour cold water on the Celtic transfer update.

Andy Halliday sent Kieran Tierney Celtic reminder over Schlupp deal

The former Rangers midfielder was speaking about Schlupp’s loan deal as he questioned whether or not he can provide Celtic with a long-term solution to their left-back problem.

And just as he made his point, host of the show, Gordon Duncan jumped in to remind Halliday exactly why Celtic are looking to make this temporary deal.

Halliday told Superscoreboard, “I don’t think they have the same depth in certain areas of the pitch. I think Brendan Rodgers has always been pretty strenuous about how he wants three strikers, preferably the third being a young Academy product.

“I think when we all saw that Kyogo was leaving we fully expected over the next few days that there was going to be a transfer spiral in terms of Celtic to be linked with strikers.

“Yes, they’ve been linked with a boy from Brondby, it doesn’t seem as if that’s going to get done. And again, they’re clearly shot in that left back area.

“Is Jeffrey Schlupp on what’s potentially going to be a six-month loan, is that filling Celtic with a lot of promise, I’m not too sure.”

Duncan interjected, “The difference with that one is at least you know that that is about treading water until Kieran Tierney comes.”

Halliday continued, “Yeah and you’ve got that cover there but my question would be, to the Celtic fans and I’m sure they’ll agree, is I don’t think Celtic would be this timid in January if the title was a lot closer.”

Jeffrey Schlupp’s Celtic medical imminent as loan deal from Crystal Palace looms

Things are moving quickly now as the deal to bring the versatile left-sided player to Celtic nears its end.

With just the finishing touches to go, Schlupp’s medical is now booked in as Sky Sports’ Anthony Joseph shared on social media.

Joseph said on X, “UPDATE: Celtic have agreed a loan deal with Crystal Palace for Jeffrey Schlupp. It’s understood the 32-year-old will undergo a medical in London tonight.”

It seems like Celtic fans are in for a busy night as Brendan Rodgers puts in a late transfer deadline day shift.
