Celtic told Dermot Desmond feels he’s ‘bigger than’ the club after ‘personal attack’ on Brendan Rodgers

What unfolded at Celtic this week will be talked about in years to come.

Unfortunately, all for the wrong reasons because it’s a negative stain on Celtic, and it’s the supporters who suffer the most.

Dermot Desmond’s public bashing of Brendan Rodgers was eye-opening and an example of just how broken the relationships were at the boardroom level.

But Andy Walker was wondering, if Rodgers was being untruthful and creating a ‘toxic’ atmosphere, then why didn’t Desmond do anything about it earlier?!

Andy Walker on Dermot Desmond’s ‘personal attack’ on Brendan Rodgers

Speaking on Go Radio, Walker described Desmond’s statement as a ‘deeply personal attack’ on Rodgers.

The former striker also stated that Celtic’s majority shareholder probably thinks he is ‘bigger than Celtic’ and he can ‘do what he wants.’

“There was nothing mutual about the parting of the ways,” said Walker. “This was a deeply personal attack from Dermot Desmond to Brendan Rodgers.”

Craig Moore: “Rodgers has been hugely successful. His comments recently have been a little bit erratic. It’s fair to say as well.

“But nobody is bigger than any football club. Whether it be Celtic, Manchester United or Rangers.”

Walker: “Maybe Dermot Desmond is bigger than the club. He can do what he wants. I think the statement that Dermot Desmond made. I think, if it’s entirely true. Why would you not take action?

“Why are you waiting until now? All that stuff that Brendan Rodgers highlighted about a senior executive briefing against him to a journalist.

“Then, Brendan Rodgers coming out talking about how it all went wrong. We didn’t get this. We didn’t get that. Why was no action taken then? If everything that Dermot said in his statement is entirely true.

“If Brendan were to speak. You would probably get some truth in the middle. There is some interpretation open to a good number of the points Dermot Desmond made.”

Rodgers ‘isn’t blameless’ in Celtic fallout

Celtic’s 4-0 win over Falkirk on Wednesday evening was much-needed, as Martin O’Neill, in his first game back, has just lifted the spirits once more.

Whilst Desmond and the Celtic board have been incompetent off the field of play, Rodgers can’t hide away from how woeful the team has played, and this is against teams like Dundee.

“I hope Brendan comes out and has his say,” stated Walker. “I don’t know if or when he will do that. Brendan Rodgers isn’t blameless.

“I thought his comments recently about the Honda Civic, Ferrari and Range Rover. I thought they were pathetic statements. It highlighted that he, maybe, wanted out at some point. I think he has probably missed the best timing of it.

“If he is resigning. The time to resign was after the transfer window, when it didn’t go his way, and he didn’t want to sell certain players. And they were sold. He lost his authority.”
