Former Celtic centenary double winner Andy Walker has hit out at the Hoops board and manager Neil Lennon following the embarrassing Champions League exit at the hands of Cluj.

The Hoops went into the tie with the advantage of an away goal, only to lose 4-3 on the night and exit the competition 5-4 on aggregate.

Walker believes that the board and the management both need to take a look at themselves following the defeat.

“Celtic have lost at home to Bayern Munich and PSG but to lose four goals against an outfit like Cluj I think that tells you Celtic weren’t prepared as well as they should have been and that’s down to the board and down to the team selection from the manager” Walker said, as reported by Sky Sports.

Unfortunately for Celtic fans, it is hard to argue with anything that Walker says. The defeat truly was a debacle for Celtic.

As he says, it is one thing to lose to giants of European football like Bayern or PSG. However, it is a different matter entirely to lose four goals to Cluj. They are not one of the best teams in Europe.

The team selection on the night can be blamed on Lennon. His decision to play Callum McGregor at left-back didn’t work at all.

Meanwhile, the perplexing transfer business so far this season can be blamed on the board. The loss to Cluj has put Celtic into a bit of a crisis. It is up to the board and the manager to get the Hoops back on track.
