Andy Walker questions commitment of Celtic squad in the wake of Europa League shambles

Former Celtic striker Andy Walker has cast doubt on the commitment of some Hoops players on the back of the 4-1 Europa League defeat to Sparta Prague, reports Sky Sports.

Walker was unimpressed with the performance – as almost everyone was – and he is concerned that some squad members might not be playing for Neil Lennon.

He also echoed the comments made by Neil Lennon in the wake of Celtic’s Champions League exit to Ferencvaros in August, that some players who are at the club don’t want to be there.

“Questions will be asked”

“Questions will be asked of the manager, so many of the players and their commitment to this club. When you lose four goals at home, questions need to be asked about the players, and if they are giving everything for the manager” Walker said, as quoted by the Sky Sports website.

“Neil Lennon said after the game against Ferencvaros in the Champions League qualifier that some wanted to be elsewhere, and it looked that way on Thursday” Walker concluded.

“There are some players who may want to leave and have made inroads into that in the last six months or so. If they are making waves to leave the club they are obviously not committed” Lennon said after the Ferencvaros game, as reported by the Herald.

However, as no one left in the summer the players that maybe wanted to leave are still at the club. That has to be an issue.

The Sky Sports pundit might not be the most popular man amongst the Celtic support. However, it is hard to disagree with what he is saying after watching the Sparta Prague game.

There is no way that the current Celtic team, no matter poor the form has been of late, should be losing by that margin to Sparta Prague.

If players lack commitment they must be dropped

If that is due to lack of commitment shown by the players then Neil Lennon has to get those players out of the Celtic team as soon as possible.

Keeping players in the side that don’t want to be at the club is a recipe for disaster.

It will be interesting to see the team that Lennon picks for Motherwell on Sunday. If there are multiple changes, then Walker might well be on to something.

In other news, Mo Elyounoussi has apologised for an incident during the Sparta Prague defeat.
