Andy Walker has tipped Patryk Klimala and Leigh Griffiths to start up-front for Celtic against Rangers, Sky Sports reports.

With doubts over Odsonne Edouard’s participation and Albian Ajeti still battling to be fit, Walker thinks that Klimala will start up-front for the Hoops, alongside Leigh Griffiths.

Griffiths starting is not much of a surprise, but perhaps Klimala is. Walker gave his reasons for choosing Klimala in his Sky Sports column.

“Took his goal brilliantly”

“Klimala…took his goal brilliantly against St Johnstone, it didn’t work out for him when he started earlier this season against St Mirren, but when you’ve paid £3.5m for a striker, there comes a point when you have to see how well he can lead the line against tough opposition” Walker said.

He then went on to discuss Griffiths.

“Celtic have a prolific goalscorer on their books, why not trust his instinct and play him from the start? He demonstrated how much he can affect a game when he came on as a sub against St Johnstone and turned a draw into a victory” Walker concluded.

Chris Sutton also tipped player to start derby

Interestingly, fellow former Celtic striker Chris Sutton shares the same view as Walker about Klimala. As reported by 67HH on Thursday, Sutton tipped Klimala to get the nod whilst appearing on the Daily Record Celtic podcast.

It is certainly a big decision that Neil Lennon has to make. Ideally he would probably play Odsonne Edouard and Albian Ajeti. However, it is too early to tell if either of those players will be involved.

Should Griffiths and Klimala be selected for the Hoops it would be their first start together as a strike partnership. They did play together for around 20 minutes of the St Johnstone game. However, that’s probably not enough time to develop a partnership.

As Walker says though, the duo do have qualities. Griffiths’ are well-known by now, whilst Klimala’s goal against St Johnstone was right to be highlighted by the pundit. It was truly excellent.

It would be a bit of a gamble for Neil Lennon to start both Klimala and Griffiths, but it might be one his is willing to take. We shall find on Saturday morning, when the team is announced.

In other news, Scott Sinclair is full of confidence that Celtic will win the derby.
