Ange begins Glasgow derby build-up; “everyone” at Celtic excited as opportunity beckons

Ange Postecoglou has given some early pre-match comments on the Glasgow derby as he stated that everyone at Celtic is looking forward to their big Ibrox opportunity.

Celtic will take the trip to Govan after the international fixtures have come to an end. The Hoops are currently 3 points clear at the top of the Premiership. Victory at Ibrox would push us 6 clear with only 6 games remaining and just 1 Glasgow derby fixture left.

Therefore, many see the game in 2 weeks, effectively, as a big opportunity to all but secure the title. Something unimaginable when Ange came in the door back in June.

And as we close in on the fixture, the Celtic boss has touched on it for the first time. Speaking at a press conference in which 67HailHail were in attendance, Postecoglou said: “Everyone is looking forward to it. You want to be involved in big games when each one has meaning. You always want to do well in the derby games but if it’s a dead rubber, and there is nothing on the end of it, then it can take a little bit away.

“There will be consequences on all these games and that’s what you want. You want to be playing in front of big crowds, friendly and hostile, knowing that everything is on the line.

“That’s why we love this game and why we want to be involved.”

Ange Postecoglou and his Celtic squad looks ready to storm Ibrox and claim success

Ibrox is never an easy place to go and get a result. We haven’t managed to win there since September 2019 for example. That’s a run that needs to be put to rest, and we’ve shown we can beat this Rangers team already.

The 3-0 win at Parkhead back in February was huge on a psychological level. It ended a long winless run against our rivals and it ended it in convincing fashion. In a manner that allows us to now march onto our rivals’ turf and feel extremely confident of leaving with maximum points.

This is almost a dream situation for any Celtic supporter. The chance to go to Ibrox after the year we’ve had and all but end their title hopes. No, it won’t mathematically be over, but it won’t exactly be close either. Celtic would be in as strong a position as they could hope for and would be highly unlikely to drop the advantage.

And even more exciting is that we go to the game with hardly any injury worries whatsoever. David Turnbull’s return means that only Kyogo Furuhashi is likely to be out. Even then, it remains to be seen what progress the Japanese international makes over the international break.

It’s no wonder there’s an excitement building around the squad. This is the kind of opportunity that doesn’t come around very often. As decent as a draw would be for our title hopes, a win would just about do it. That must have the energy levels pumping ahead of the clash on April 3rd.

Until then, hopefully we don’t pick up any knocks from the international matches. For now, that’s all that will be on Ange’s mind.
