I’m guessing by now most Celtic fans have recovered and are now taking time to digest just how massive the latest Glasgow Derby win over Rangers was at the weekend.
I’m not saying we didn’t know the magnitude of the game before kick-off, but sometimes the emotion of the occasion and just wanting to focus solely on beating your closest rivals for the bragging rights can cloud the bigger picture.
And, of course, for the fans the bigger picture was a win against Rangers would mean the title is over.
Not mathematically, but in terms of giving them any hope to catch us or to just keep on our coattails, the challenge is over. But not for the Celtic manager. Ange Postecoglou remains steadfast in his stance that the only thing a win on Saturday would deliver was three points.
Speaking to Kheredine Idessane on BBC Sportsound, when asked if the title is now over, Ange gave a classic response to which the Celtic fans (and the reporters) are only too familiar with, “You got a trophy with you? No? That probably suggests it’s not done. Look, I get it, we’re in a great position. I keep saying it, why waste a game of football?
“We’ve still got seven I think to go in the league, a cup semi-final and some opportunities to produce some magic and win some games of football. I’m not going to let anyone dismiss any of these games.”
With seven games to go, Celtic sit pretty at the top of the table with a twelve-point advantage and an incredible +29 goal difference. For the fans, it is over. It would take a monumental collapse to drop the ball and lose the league title.
But for Ange, it’s just another three points towards the end goal. The great thing about the Celtic manager is that even now, he will not allow himself to be distracted by the outside noise of a derby win.
