Ange Postecoglou addresses potential Celtic exits this January transfer window
Ange Postecoglou says the whole Celtic squad are contributing in training, and nobody’s letting him down – but if a player wants to speak to him about the January transfer window, they can.
In terms of outgoings, though, it’s not so clear-cut. Certainly, Albian Ajeti and Vasilis Barkas look as if their futures at the club are in doubt.
However, Postecoglou doesn’t necessarily see it that way. He says there are opportunities for everyone if they continue to train well. His seems a happy squad, although as time goes on, of course players will have questions about their future.
He said [Daily Record]:
“No one needs to convince me. How they present themselves every day is all I need.
“Whilst everyone sees the end product on a game day, what we do in training is vital to our football and that only happens if everyone is contributing in training, the ones who are playing and the ones who aren’t.
“Everyone wants to play and people are disappointed when they don’t but ultimately you have an obligation and a responsibility to come here every day and be the best you can be.
“All the guys in the squad at the moment are doing that. There’s no one who I feel isn’t putting in or showing signs of disenchantment from the point of view of not wanting to contribute.
“At the same time if there ever comes a point where people feel this is not the place for them then I’m happy to have that conversation and we will do what’s best for this football club.”
Celtic will probably shift a player or two in the January transfer window, but they won’t be forced
Some interesting stuff from Ange Postecoglou there.
Inevitably, Celtic probably will end up moving on a couple of players in the January transfer window. If the bid is right, and the player wants to leave, then surely Postecoglou isn’t going to stand in their way.
For sure, this can be interpreted as a plea to the likes of Ajeti and Barkas, who are nowhere near the first-team. Elsewhere, players like Scott Bain could be on his way. Loans for players including Osaze Urhoghide and Liam Shaw are possibilities.
The point is, though, from Ange’s point of view, everyone who trains at Lennoxtown is a candidate for playing time. The whole squad has been and will continue to be used if Celtic are going to be successful this season.
Ange has shown ruthlessness in the past. He’s not been sentimental about shedding players if their attitude isn’t right. Just ask ex-Rangers man Bob Malcolm.
That doesn’t seem to be the problem at Celtic, though. Egos aren’t an issue, for now at least. Very quickly, Postecoglou’s built a united front.
