Ange Postecoglou ally John Hutchinson has left his role at Yokohama Marinos as Celtic continue their search for backroom talent.

Postecoglou stated after the recent Celtic AGM that he’s still on the hunt for additions to the footballing department [Celtic TV]. As of yet, no new high-profile hires have been made since the appointment of Anton McElhone as the Head of Sports Science.

However, it’ll be interesting to see if he makes a move for Hutchinson whose contract won’t be renewed by Marinos for next season under manager Kevin Muscat.

The club announced the news this morning, with Hutchinson only joining up with the club back in the early stages of 2021. He was a Postecoglou appointment and worked as one of his assistants before Ange’s departure to Celtic in the summer.

As of yet, there have been no announcements on the Australian coach’s next step. However, there’s clearly a relationship there between the pair.

It remains to be seen if Ange believes he has the ability to take on a particular role at Lennoxtown.

Ange Postecoglou ally John Hutchinson on the lookout for next move

Hutchinson’s departure certainly comes at an interesting time. At a time when Celtic are looking to make staff changes and add to what we already have in the footballing department.

Of course, that in itself will come with plenty of interest. Hutchinson certainly has his credentials after being a coach in Australia, the USA, and Japan respectively. He’s well-travelled, and it’s clear he looks up to Postecoglou too.

The Australian coach has worked at Seattle Sounders as both an assistant manager and manager of the reserve team. He also plied his trade as a coach with Central Coast Mariners and Western United in his homeland.

And as his time in Japan comes to an end, all eyes will be on whether he’s one of the figures being eyed up for a potential move to Scotland as the manager looks to add to his backroom team.

Many thought Ange’s assistant in Japan, Arthur Papas, was potentially in line for a job at Parkhead before he became the new manager of Newcastle Jets. So it’s very much a case of watch this space for now.
