Ange Postecoglou appears to have already solved one of Neil Lennon’s frustrating Celtic issues

When it comes to Ange Postecoglou and solving the major Celtic issues from last year, it’s going to take some time.

Given the damage Neil Lennon and co did to the club in our pursuit of the 10, it won’t be an overnight fix. Just look at the size of the rebuild that’s still needed at the football club.

But after watching Celtic dismantle Dundee 6-0 at Parkhead this afternoon, it’s clear one of Lennon’s most frustrating problems looks like it’s already been solved.

One of the main criticisms of the ex-manager was his failure to make the team less predictable going forward. This often led to frustrating afternoons where we would dominate possession without ever luring the opposition out of shape.

In Lennon’s final 12 league matches in charge, Celtic only scored over two goals on two occasions. We simply weren’t creating the opportunities, with far too heavy a reliance on David Turnbull to provide a spark from midfield.

It was that as well as so much more to Lennon departing the club. And it’s fair to say John Kennedy didn’t fare much better either. In his 10 games in charge, we failed to bag over one goal in seven [Wiki].

Ange Postecoglou already sorting out a key Celtic issue

You watch Celtic today and answer whether that’s a side in desperate need of some attacking flair. They have it in abundance, with constant advancing runners from the midfield looking to create space and feed Kyogo Furuhashi.

Not to mention the likes of Ryan Christie and Liel Abada thriving with the responsibility of providing service for the strikers whilst getting into dangerous scoring positions themselves.

This comes with the off-ball movement that’s so prevalent in Postecoglou’s system. Dundee simply couldn’t cope because there were so many goalscoring threats coming from different angles.

And that’s not just today either. Celtic have been creating a host of chances in all five of their competitive games so far. And it’s difficult to know where the next chance is going to come from due to the plethora of dangerous attacking players.

The Hoops have 13 goals in their competitive matches this season. 10 in our last two incredibly. And with goalscoring threats such as Kyogo Furuhashi, Abada, Christie, and David Turnbull constantly bombing forward, Celtic finally look to have worked out how to provide their attacking players with space and time on the ball.

It’s early days, but one of Lennon’s oldest issues appears to be a thing of the past.
