Ange Postecoglou says Kyogo Furuhashi is “itching” to get back out on the park for Celtic and make a similar impact to his first few months at the club.

Kyogo was an absolute sensation when he joined from the J-League last summer. He netted 16 goals before the end of December and remains our top scorer for the campaign.

More than that he played with excitement and intelligence beyond anything Celtic supporters have seen for years. He’s been a breath of fresh air.

You’ll know by now that Postecoglou has confirmed he is fit and ready for the match against Rangers – but it sounds like he’s looking sharp too.

The manager told Sky Sports this afternoon: “Whatever game we throw him into, it’s going to be a big one. There aren’t going to be any games between now and the end of the season. They are all games with massive consequences.

“He’s worked hard at training, he’s worked hard at rehab. He was sensational for us in the first part of the season. I was really disappointed for him that he’s been out for this long.

“He’s itching, he’s ready to go. It’s just a matter of me picking the right moment.”

It certainly sounds like that moment is going to come sooner rather than later. It’s still doubtful he’ll feature from the start at Ibrox, but having him ready to be unleashed from the bench sounds good to me.

Kyogo strikes me as a character who wants to make up for lost time – so when he is let loose on the pitch then our opponents better be careful.

He’s going to play with the same intensity as when he left the Celtic scene. If we can get a fit and motivated Kyogo on the pitch in our remaining matches, it could be the weapon we need to tip from contenders to winners this term.
