Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou thinks Cameron Carter-Vickers will miss out on the opportunity to join up with the United States national team after picking up an injury this week.
Carter-Vickers was entirely absent from today’s match squad against St Mirren, prompting fears that the defender had picked up an injury. That does now appear to be the case.
Pre-match, Postecoglou stated he had “pulled up a bit sore” in training, and post-match suggested that he will be missing for a number of weeks.

As quoted by The Daily Record, the Celtic boss said: “We’ll see how he is. I think he’s out of the US camp, so we are hoping post international break he won’t be too far away.”
Meanwhile, on Carl Starfelt, Postecoglou stated: “Again, we’ll just wait and see. He’s still in rehab, so we’ll see how he is potentially after the break.”
The presence of both defenders was badly missed in Paisley, with Curtis Main and company doing a job on Moritz Jenz and Stephen Welsh. The sooner they are back, Carter-Vickers in particular, the better it will be for Celtic.
There are significant tests once football resumes after the break, not least the trip to RB Leipzig immediately after hosting Motherwell at home on October 1st.
It’s crucial we have a stronger defensive unit in place for that one as the Germans are more than capable of punishing teams, as Borussia Dortmund found out recently.
Fingers crossed for speedy recoveries!
