Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has shared that Callum McGregor is ‘pushing every boundary’ and ‘probably ahead of schedule’ in his rehabilitation from a knee injury.

McGregor suffered the issue in the match away to RB Leipzig, and there were initial concerns he could be out until much later in the season.

While the Celtic boss has again shared he won’t be seen before the World Cup break, it sounds like the captain is on track to make a return shortly after the action resumes.

Speaking to Sky Sports today, Postecoglou said: “He’s a constant presence; he’s always around the dressing room. The recovery is going well.

“We won’t see him before the break, but Callum being Callum he’s pushing every boundary and probably ahead of schedule, which is no surprise to us.

“Speaking to him, he’s in a pretty good place and really pleased with the way it’s going. I think he realises that when we come back there’s still the most important part of the season to go, and he wants to be a big contributor to that.”

McGregor has been a big miss to the Celtic team. His absence has forced a rethink of the midfield three, with Matt O’Riley moving to a deeper role and even Kyogo Furuhashi coming in to play as one of the more advanced duo.

That’s far from ideal, not to mention the quality and leadership he brings to on-pitch performances, away from the dressing room and training.

The sooner we get him back the better – and it sounds like he is showing the motivation and determination we’ve come to expect, in an effort to hasten the process.
