Ange Postecoglou explains why Celtic are picking up so many muscle injuries

Ange Postecoglou believes a combination of the fixture schedule and his style of football at Celtic have combined to strike the squad with so many muscle injuries over the last couple of months.

Key first-team players such as Tom Rogic, Carl Starfelt and Jota have all spent time out of the time due to hamstring problems. They aren’t the only players to have missed matches either.

Last night, Kyogo and Albian Ajeti were the latest to pull up with apparent hamstring issues. It’s left many supporters scratching their heads about what exactly is going wrong.

Asked if he thinks the schedule is taking its toll on the Bhoys, Postecoglou told Sky Sports: “There’s no doubt about that. It’s a ridiculous amount of games we are having to play.

“And I guess it’s the way and the manner in which we play our football as well, it’s very demanding on the players. We don’t have the squad yet to cope with that and that’s putting stress on, which we have had to deal with pretty much the whole way through.

“We still have seven games to go, remarkably, between now and the break. Hopefully getting some game time for guys means they become options for us in terms of making them game-ready. Hopefully when the break comes we will get reinforcements and come out stronger.”

In this context, it remains a curious decision to stick Kyogo on against Betis just 28 minutes into the Europa League encounter. However, this has been divisive topic for supporters with some understanding his decision and others criticising the Australian.

Either way, Celtic are facing a difficult few weeks with the fixture schedule not getting any easier. With Premiership points crucial, a cup final ahead and a derby too, we need the squad to perform even without key players.

You can understand why Ange is counting down the days to January.
