Ange Postecoglou has confirmed when he wants his new Celtic recruits to arrive
Ange Postecoglou has today provided an exact timeframe for when he wants his new January signings to arrive at the club.
The Hoops have been ploughing through their festive schedule with a major injury crisis. It’s been widely acknowledged that Postecoglou needs to bring in a host of new signings in order to plug some of the squad gaps that have been evident so far this term.
Massive work was done in the summer when Celtic brought in 12 new players alongside Postecoglou. However, slip-ups against the likes of Livingston and St Mirren have proven that the Hoops simply can’t rely on some of their reserves.
And Postecoglou has now stated that he wants all of his new arrivals in before the players return to training to prepare for the second half of the campaign.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Ange said: “We are still with the intent of trying to bring them (signings) early and if we can and, from my perspective, it would be ideal if we can get them in from when we re-start training and give them a lead into the second half of the year.
“I don’t think I will ever go through another transfer period like I did when with the first one when we had to bring in 12, that was something unique I think.
“This time we can be a little more measured, we’ve been working on it a lot longer, so, I know what we want. It’s still challenging, it’s not a precise science, but hopefully we get the ones we want we get them in early.”
Ange Postecoglou wants his new Celtic signings involved immediately
It’s interesting to hear Ange talk about wanting his players in early to get them ready for the football resuming. That suggests that come the game against Hibernian on January 17th, he wants his recruits ready for action.
The likes of Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate will be the names on everyone’s lips. Ange looks set to plunder the J-League once again next month, and given the success of Kyogo Furuhashi, that tactic will have many supporters excited.
It’s extremely exciting for supporters that Ange wants them ready for the resumption too. Hopefully, that means they’re going to be making a big impact from the off. Hopefully, it also means they’re ready to face Rangers on February 2nd too.
In terms of priorities next month, it’s clear where we need to strengthen. Celtic need another reliable centre-forward for a start. Not to mention another midfielder would be more than ideal.
Of course, it remains to be seen how we look when our injured stars return. This injury crisis has been surreal, and it could be that the crippling effect of it has led to us craving more bodies than we actually need.
But there are undoubtedly squad gaps there. Areas that Postecoglou needs to fill. That was the case even with all of our first-team available. All eyes then on who Celtic identify and bring in.
