Ange Postecoglou insists that Celtic are going to get even better

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has insisted that his team are far from the finished product and will get even better as time goes on.

The Bhoys have picked up six victories on the bounce in all competitions recently. Along the way, they’ve stuck six goals past Dundee and St Mirren.

They’re now heading into two crucial matches against AZ Alkmaar.

Postecoglou has received huge plaudits for revitalising the Celtic team and bringing hope back to supporters.

However, it’s also him is calling for continued patience. He reckons there’s a long, long way to go before Celtic are the finished article.

He explained to reporters [Celtic YouTube]: “We’re still far off, but I don’t want to be dismissive of what the players have done so far, but we all know in football that it has to stand the test of time.

“Because there are going to be inevitable challenges, even beyond this week when everyone is saying this will be the measure. There will be inevitable challenges down the track, whether that’s some players having a loss of form, or injuries or certain challenges we have.

“And, for me, we’ve got to stand the test of time with our football before we can say, ‘okay, we’ve built a strong foundation’. At the moment, what we have done is – and again I don’t want to be dismissive – given people hope that we’re on the right track to something.

“But we’re not there, we can’t be there because we haven’t gone through those inevitable bumps that you face in a football season or on a football journey, so that’s when you’ll know whether it’s really embedded in the players and in the mentality of everyone in the group.”

The progress in a small amount of time has been outstanding. So that Postecoglou feels this team are going to become even better over a longer period should be very worrying for the rest of Scottish football!

We’ve been absolutely relentless so far, with only the Hearts game at the start of the season standing out as a poor performance.

It’s hard to imagine performances being any more thrilling, but if Celtic can produce high energy displays on a consistent basis then not many teams will find joy against us domestically.
