Adam Montgomery’s loan move from Celtic to Aberdeen has been lauded by manager Ange Postecoglou.
Montgomery put pen to paper on a temporary agreement that will see him link up with the Pittodrie club until the end of the season. Adam was even rushed into the squad but didn’t make his debut in last night’s 1-1 draw against Ross County.
The youngster has been pushed up the Celtic ranks by Ange this season, making 18 appearances in all competitions [Transfermarkt]. Postecoglou has been happy to throw Montgomery into games against the likes of Bayer Leverkusen and Rangers, but as the left-back picture firms up with Greg Taylor and Liam Scales battling for minutes, the temporary move was the right one.

And Ange is clearly extremely pleased with the transfer as he gave his first remarks on it.
As quoted by the Scotsman, Postecoglou said: “It’s a great deal for him to go to Aberdeen, a great environment, a good football club, a good coach. It was important for me that we got him out.
“We still had some work to do and there were a couple of others we were hoping to do that didn’t quite materialise.”
Adam Montgomery couldn’t have asked for a better Celtic loan exit
Outside of Hibernian under Shaun Maloney, a move to Aberdeen with Stephen Glass is as good a loan move as Montgomery could’ve asked for.
It looked at times during the window as if he would’ve had to settle for a move to the Championship. However, he’s instead managed to find himself at one of the top football clubs in Scotland, with the standards set to be extremely high.
He’ll find himself training alongside experienced and hugely talented pros such as Scott Brown and Jonny Hayes too. The demand at that club will be of a similar nature to Celtic, despite their struggling season so far.

It will also be interesting to see where Glass sees Montgomery playing. Does he put him in his more natural left-back role? Or is he being primed to play higher up than that? Adam has experience of both, and Aberdeen surely won’t want to halt the progress of Jack McKenzie either.
Hopefully, Adam can make an impression over the course of the next 5 months and potentially even have the loan extended into next season if things go well. We saw just what a prolonged spell at Pittodrie did for Ryan Christie. That’s the path Adam will now be eyeing up.
It’s all there for him to achieve with the opportunity now being put in front of him. How he fares between now and the summer is going to be extremely intriguing.
