Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou doesn’t know if midfielder Nir Bitton will be available for tomorrow’s match at home to Aberdeen.

The Israeli international was forced out of the match against Bayer Leverkusen with a head knock on Thursday night. Prone on the pitch on two occasions, it didn’t look particularly good.

Celtic will be taking concussion protocols seriously in the wake of that and Postecoglou has confirmed they’ll have to take a wait-and-see approach ahead of Sunday’s action.

He told The Scottish Mail on Sunday [27/11 print edition, page 125]: “I was a bit disappointed to see Nir come off and, in terms of how he is going to be, I’m not really sure.

“We’ll assess him, but he’s been pretty influential for us and did well to set up the second goal for us in Germany.

“Disappointing to take him off because we needed him to help us control the middle of the park. But I thought James McCarthy did okay when he came on.”

Postecoglou will now be left pondering the make-up of his midfield for the visit of the Dons with players such as Tom Rogic, James McCarthy and Ismaila Soro in contention.

The most likely starter would be Rogic considering his importance to the team and form under the manager so far this season. He’s coming back from a hamstring injury and the Bhoys boss suggested earlier this week he should be ready for tomorrow.

That would see Callum McGregor drop back into a deeper midfield role and look to link defence with the attack.

All eyes on the team announcement.
