Video: Ange Postecoglou meets Kennedy and Strachan at Celtic; new era begins
Celtic have posted a video to their Instagram account of Ange Postecoglou meeting John Kennedy and Gavin Strachan for the first time.
After this morning’s update from the club, that Postecoglou had arrived in Glasgow, the Greek-Australian boss has already been quick at work. You can watch Ange Postecoglou shaking hands with some of the coaching staff at Lennoxtown on Celtic’s Instagram story.
The former Yokohama F Marinos manager was announced on the 10th of June [Celtic FC], but Covid-19 protocols restricted his access to Scotland. Now, having completed a period of quarantine, the ex-Socceroos boss has been putting faces to names and making his presence known.
In an interview with Celtic, Postecoglou said [Celtic FC]:
“It’s great to be here, it’s been a tough three weeks to get here but I’m super happy to be here now.
“It’s been a bit of a whirlwind and I knew it wouldn’t sink in that I’m the new Celtic manager until I got here. Now I can get cracking and start working.
“I got to meet everyone and put everything in place that we need to. It’s been fantastic. I already had some familiarity with it but it’s a great set-up. The people here are fantastic and I’m looking forward to working with everyone. Everyone keeps warning me about the weather but it all looks pretty beautiful at the moment.”
We would suggest Ange Postecoglou invests in a jacket or two after arriving at Celtic
“I’m not a fan of Zoom even though it’s been our existence for 18 months so I was keen to get up here as soon as possible.
“I had to do quarantine and make sure we followed all the protocols but being here now is exactly where I wanted to be.
“Ultimately, people want to get to know me. It’s one thing to have ideas and talk about what you want to do but people need to meet me and understand me as a person as much as a manager. You can’t do that unless you meet people in person and we’ll start that process now.”
He’s right; Zoom doesn’t quite do it. And in many ways, it’s testament to Postecoglou’s character that, without a face-to-face meeting with his new employers, he took the job anyway. Clearly, he’s a fearless character, and the chance to topple Rangers for the Scottish Premiership, and compete in Europe, is a job he was desperate to start.
His first real test is high-stakes. Celtic meet FC Midtjylland on the 20th of July, with even tougher opponents awaiting the Bhoys should they progress. Admittedly, that’s a bit of a free hit for Postecoglou. However, everything about him suggests it’s a challenge he’s more than up for.
Here we are. It’s the Age of Ange. Postecoglou is in the building.
