Celtic under Ange Postecoglou this season have been non-stop in their dominance of the domestic league. Five dropped points tell you that this Celtic side has been in a relentless pursuit of defending their title. And there is more than one reason for that.
The Celtic boss was speaking ahead of his side’s trip to Tynecastle and has said that every year his team approach the league with the same mindset. They want to win it. Because with that brings Champions League football.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Ange said, “That’s our main objective every year. We start every year we want to be champions in the league. That’s got to be the ultimate goal.
“That’s what sets you apart from every other team in the competition and the prize at the end of it in terms of Champions League football. So last year and this year, that’s been our priority.
“The lad’s consistency both in performance and results has been outstanding. The way they’ve juggled the different challenges we’ve had this year playing Champions League football, which takes an enormous toll.
“And getting through that period without it affecting our league form and the World Cup break, all these kinds of things. The way they’ve adapted and embraced those challenges has been outstanding.”
I can only echo Ange’s words on how we have been performing domestically. No one can touch us. And next season will be no different. We just need to improve on results in Europe.
This season’s Champions League campaign under Ange was disappointing from a results point of view. In terms of performance, the team had shown that they can match the best sides at Celtic Park.
No doubt, the Celtic boss will be aiming to take us to the next level of the competition. Knowing that we are guaranteed a Champions League group stage bounty, Ange will be looking to invest a good portion of that cash into upgrading the side with the hope of making it out of the group stages.
But for now, all eyes are on Tyncastle where a win will complete stage two of a potential domestic treble.
