Celtic are a massive 12 points clear at the top of the Scottish Premeirship after beating Rangers 3-2 in an exciting derby match at Celtic Park this afternoon.

A double from Kyogo Furuhashi and another derby goal for Jota had the Bhoys ahead, with Rangers unable to get themselves on equal footing, nevermind find the win they badly needed to keep their title hopes alive.

It was far from Celtic’s best performance of the season but ultimately Ange’s team couldn’t be stopped once again, finding a result that ensures Glasgow remains green and white.

Celtic too good for Rangers again

Reflecting on the afternoon after the match, Postecoglou told BBC Radio Scotland [14:45]: “It had a bit of everything. It was very, very competitive at times. You understand the significance of the game, both in terms of the derby and the season, it’s only natural players are going to be on edge a little bit and I think that showed in our game.

“We still controlled aspects of it. We were always a threat. They were a threat from set-pieces and caused us some problems there. I just can’t help but admire the character this group of players shows to get the job done. Again, this group of players has come together and formed a really strong unity, bond and belief in each other. As a manager, you obviously analyse the performance but that quality they bring to it is just outstanding.

“We knew the consequences of winning today and what it does for our league position. It’s a game our supporters want us to win all the time. The players embrace that part of it. They’re a group of winners.”

Ange’s Celtic team often get plaudits for their attacking prowess and free-flowing football when on top form, but equally important has been that desire that the manager talks about when not everything is going the Bhoys’ way.

Players such as Callum McGregor and Alistair Johnston really stepped up today to guide Celtic through the game, while Kyogo and Jota kept persevering in their pursuit of the ball only to be rewarded with the chances to win all three points.

It’s another fantastic day for this team, the coaching staff, the club and the supporters. No doubt the manager will have them laser-focused on the trip to Kilmarnock next week almost immediately.

In other news, Michael Beale’s clumsy Celtic title and referee pressure comments were very telling.
