Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has heavily praised both Reo Hatate and Matt O’Riley after superb performances in midfield against Ross County this afternoon.

Both players were influential in turning over a goal deficit to eventually win 2-1 in the second half. Hatate, in particular, was crucial in setting up both goals with slick play in the attacking third.

Postecoglou was asked specifically about Hatate in his post-match interview but rather than just single out the Japanese talent, wanted to highlight the work of O’Riley too.

Speaking to Radio Scotland, the Celtic boss said [17:16]: “He was brilliant. He and Matty have carried an enormous shift over this period. We lost Callum McGregor early on and he’s such an influential player and fantastic footballer, Callum. And he played every game.

“We had to fill that void somehow. It’s been Matt and Reo who have done that. Even today, they just refused to yield. They gave everything of themselves. Both in the qualities they have and in terms of character. Both of them will have grown enormously during this period because what they’ve been through has made them better footballers.

“I think we’ll see the best of them after the break.”

Postecoglou is spot on here of course. O’Riley has had to adapt to a different midfield role while Hatate is now taking games by the scruff of the neck to push Celtic towards victory.

When McGregor returns, we’ll have a really fearsome midfield unit ready to launch a trophy push in all three domestic competitions.

Today, we can be thankful two of them were there to help dig out a massive win that pushes Celtic nine points clear at the top of the table.
