The injury suffered by Yosuke Ideguchi isn’t serious enough for Celtic to think about altering their transfer plans this summer, manager Ange Postecoglou has said.
Ideguchi suffered an accident in training through the week, requiring stitches for a gash that will keep him out of the initial stages of the new season.
However, it appears Postecoglou isn’t concerned about Ideguchi’s long-term ability to provide cover in midfield and has indicated there won’t be a replacement as a direct result of the issue.
As quoted by The Herald, the Bhoys boss said: “He picked up a pretty nasty injury in training. He had to have some stitches in his leg, so he’ll be missing for a few weeks.
“His injury doesn’t change it (his transfer plans). We are still going to be active and there are weeks in the window to go.
“So while we’ve done the main part of our business early, which was important for me, we still expect there will be some comings and goings before the end of the window.”
Celtic have plenty of cover at the moment with both Aaron Mooy and James McCarthy available behind consistent starter Callum McGregor.
It is a blow for Ideguchi, but the Japanese talent will hope it doesn’t place him too far behind the curve when it comes to fitness and match readiness heading into the busier stages of the season.
The midfielder has yet to really show what he’s all about in a Celtic shirt, and off the back of a strong pre-season this was the last thing he needed.
