Ange Postecoglou’s evolution of the Celtic backroom staff will continue this summer with the club publicly advertising for a First Team Analyst position.
Since his arrival from Japan, Celtic and Postecoglou have already added Anton McElhone as Head of Sports Science, Stuart McLaren as U18s manager and Antoine Ortega as a First Team Data Analyst.
Mark Lawwell has also joined the club as the Head of First Team Scouting and Recruitment.

Now, Celtic are looking for another person to come in and assist the Bhoys with match analysis and preparation.
In a listing on Jobs In Football, the club describe the purpose of the role, stating: “This will involve working closely with the Analysis and backroom team at Lennoxtown to service all their analysis & coaching needs.
“This may include but not be restricted to; Pre-match opposition analysis, set-play analysis, individual technical analysis, ad-hoc research projects and some data trend analysis. It is essential to have a sufficient mix of academic, football and specific training experience and knowledge to carry out this role.”
Meanwhile, specific responsibilities will include:
- Working in tandem with the Celtic opposition analyst, producing detailed video analysis presentations (open play & set plays) for Ange Postecoglou and staff
- Liaising with internal and external software & data providers regarding performance analysis, ensuring Celtic are continuing to develop the products and use them in the most effective ways
- Initiating and carrying out ad-hoc research projects for the benefit of team and individual performance
- Continually updating knowledge of best practice within football analysis and be pro-active in the search of new technologies, innovations and processes to enhance current practice
It’s unclear whether the posting is designed to replace an outgoing member of staff, or simply add to the numbers available to the coaching team and players.
Either way, the posting is not only an indication that Postecoglou is being proactive at Lennoxtown but also provides a bit of insight into the behind-the-scenes working of a modern Celtic.

This is a degree level role, with applicants also advantaged by holding football coaching qualifications to an SFA B License level.
It’ll be very interesting to see what other kind of positions come up at the Bhoys over the next few months.
