Ange Postecoglou targeted by two major European clubs for managerial return, according to Fabrizio Romano

Ange Postecoglou may have only been at Celtic for two years, but his impact at the club was seismic.

Taking over a side which had just finished 25 points behind Rangers, Postecoglou turned things around with an exciting new squad and a relentless brand of attacking football.

If it wasn’t for the Aussie’s arrival, it’s difficult to know where Celtic would currently be, and some Hoops fans want him to return one day.

Postecoglou left Celtic Park to join Tottenham Hotspur, where he would also spend two years – but this time, reluctantly. Despite securing the club’s first trophy in 17 years, a dismal league record in his second season saw him dismissed.

Having not spent time out of management since he left Australia in 2017, it is understandable that Postecoglou may not be desperate to find a new role.

However, according to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, he could be tempted into a return sooner rather than later.

Major offers for Ange Postecoglou from Turkey and Germany, according to Fabrizio Romano

With the transfer window having just shut, now would be an awkward time to join a new club for any manager.

We may be in early September, but some European clubs have already decided to make a change in the dugout after disappointing starts to the season.

Erik Ten Hag and Jose Mourinho – two managers also sacked by Manchester United in recent years – have both already been fired from their roles at Bayer Leverkusen and Fenerbahce respectively.

And according to Romano, both clubs see Postecoglou as an option, with both mentioning his name in early discussions.

At Fenerbahce, the task would be simple – reclaim the Turkish Super Lig title, which the club has not won since 2014. If Mourinho couldn’t achieve this despite heavy financial backing, that would be another mammoth task.

Should Celtic be eyeing up managerial targets?

Given the uncertainty of Brendan Rodgers’ contract situation, now may also be a time for Celtic to be looking at potential appointments.

An underwhelming transfer window will have done little to persuade the 52-year-old to stay beyond what is his sixth season across two spells as the club’s manager.

With the admirers he has within the club, John Kennedy would be a possible candidate – both Postecoglou and Rodgers have tried to lure him from the club to the Premier League previously.

With Champions League football no longer a certainty, current assistant Kennedy would represent a budget option too – this would undoubtedly appeal to the club’s decision-makers.

Should Postecoglou continue to be courted by clubs of this stature, it is unlikely that he will be back for a second stint any time soon.
