Like Celtic, Ange Postecoglou is about to embark on a European adventure in the Europa League with Nottingham Forest.
The Nottingham Forest boss is, ironically, preparing to take on Real Betis this week and Celtic fans will remember the La Liga side was one of the first teams Postecoglou faced in his first season at Parkhead.
Celtic hero Postecoglou has had a mixed start to his career at Forest losing his first two games and then drawing with Burnley at the weekend.
And now at Forest, the Australian told The Trees’ fans about his time at Celtic as he recalled his Parkhead European journey fondly.

Ange Postecoglou talks fondly of his ‘great experience’ in Europe with Celtic
Ange almost took Celtic out of the Europa League group stage in 2021 narrowly missing out on qualification despite picking up nine points with two wins against Ferencvaros, and a memorable 3-2 victory over Betis.
And it seems Postecoglou has been inspired to share that season as Forest look to kick off their campaign against the Spanish side.
Postecoglou told the Daily Mirror, “I thoroughly enjoyed last year.
“I had two years at Celtic, where we were in Europe as well. It’s a great experience.
“Playing away from home, you experience different environments, different cultures and different styles of football. It’s very challenging.
“It can test you in many ways – physically and mentally.
“You have got to use every minute to make sure you are recovering mentally and physically for the next challenge. Just being part of it is genuinely exciting, even for me as a manager.
“I’m looking forward to it.”
Ange Postecoglou’s Europa League record with Celtic
As previously said, Postecoglou was unlucky not to take Celtic out of the Europa League group phase after a brilliant campaign during a massive rebuild at the time.
Here is how the Nottingham Forest boss fared:
- Real Betis 4 v 3 Celtic
- Celtic 0 v 4 Bayer Leverkusen
- Celtic 2 v 0 Ferencváros
- Ferencváros 2 v 3 Celtic
- Bayer Leverkusen 3 v 2 Celtic
- Celtic 3 v 2 Real Betis
How close Ange came to pulling off a historic result in Germany and Spain will never be forgotten by the Celtic support and, hopefully, he can create more of these special memories for the Nottingham Forest fans.
