Ange Postecoglou thinks Celtic need more sports science staff
Ange Postecoglou has opened up on his staffing problem at the club, stating Celtic don’t have the sports science team in place to help the squad through a brutal season.
Postecoglou is already on the record stating the club need more players in the door, now his latest comments point to more unpreparedness from the club.
He wants to make additions to his backroom team, but not in the coaching department.
As quoted by The Scotsman, the Bhoys boss said: “People have asked me about bringing my own people in. Well, it’s not the coaching area that I think we need that extra support in.
“I think the areas we need are particularly in the conditioning area and the sports science area, we need some more people in to help us. It’s going to be a punishing schedule.
“I’m a big believer in needing to manage your squad of players through that period if you want to play the kind of football we want to play, be a team that plays high intensity, pressurises the opposition and really wants to move the ball quickly then that takes a physical toll.

“So, looking after the players off the field is really important. And certainly we’re looking to bring in people who will help us in those areas.”
Sports science comments demonstrate more failure to prepare at Celtic
As we discussed last month, the head of sports science at Celtic, Jack Nayler, has left the club to join RB Leipzig.
No doubt that has had a heavy impact on preparations for the new season, but surely Celtic, as a club, had an inkling Nayler was leaving?
To not have the staff in Postecoglou needs in place is frankly another sign of how negligent the executive team have been. If they couldn’t foresee this issue, there should have been a football operations person in place to sort out these problems for the new manager.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s reassuring that Postecoglou wants these people at Lennoxtown. But where are they? The Scottish Premiership is about to start.
Celtic kick off against Hearts tonight and after the exertions of Wednesday night, we really could have with a top-tier sports science team in the building, don’t you think?
