Ange Postecoglou's amusing response to Callum McGregor milestone as Celtic get set to play on notable date
Ange Postecoglou was in good form as he commented on a milestone for Celtic captain Callum McGregor this weekend.
The midfielder is likely to make his 400th appearance for Celtic at Tannadice on Sunday, and Postecoglou was full of praise while offering a bit of humour too.
“You can’t understate Callum’s influence on and off the park,” he said on the Celtic TV video.
“He hits an unbelievable level of consistency and excellence while probably playing more than anyone else.
“And his influence around the group is outstanding.
“Great credit to him, you don’t see it (400 appearances) too often these days.
“He’s halfway there. I’m thinking of 800 for him by the time he’s finished so we’ll see how it goes.”
If McGregor can double his current tally he will become the player with the most appearances in the club’s history.
Of course, that is pretty unrealistic given the vast number. The fact that iconic club figure Billy McNeill managed 790 is just evidence of the immense impact he had on our club.
McGregor is following in the footsteps of giants like McNeill, Danny McGrain and Scott Brown, leading the club to success in his own way.
Celtic venture to Tannadice this weekend, with the match taking place on January 29.
The opposition and the date may be etched on the minds of supporters. It was on that date last year that Liel Abada struck a last minute winner to down United at Celtic Park.
The result was a real turning point in the title race with Postecoglou’s side going on to beat Rangers a few days later, top the table and never look back.
Now we find ourselves nine points clear at the same stage of this season.
Postecoglou, McGregor and the rest of the squad deserve so much credit.
