Ange Postecoglou’s dry humour on show after Sky Sports man's ‘successful season’ question

After Celtic’s defeat to Hibernian last night in Edinburgh, Ange Postecoglou was fairly philosophical about another three dropped points.

A loss to Rangers earlier in the month added to the 2-2 draw with St Mirren at the weekend was compounded last night with the defeat to the Edinburgh side. Postecoglou himself has admitted that since the title was sealed at Tynecastle earlier in the month, the team’s performances haven’t been at their best.

However, we are still champions. Nothing can change that. The Celtic manager was asked last night on Sky Sports if having the opportunity to lift the SPFL trophy this weekend in front of a packed Celtic Park and to win a treble must be viewed as a ‘successful season’, Ange replied with a wry smile, “Yeah, it’s decent isn’t it?”

Last night I reported on Ange reacting to a BBC journalist who seemed to suggest that the Celtic team will need to be strengthened to get through next season after the recent run of results.

Ange was irked at the question and I’m guessing the Celtic manager is getting seriously annoyed at the narrative beginning to surround the quality of his squad. And I can understand that.

All season the squad has been receiving plaudits for the amount of talent it has. And after a few negative results after the title has been wrapped up, there seems to be an opinion building that the squad is not as good as everybody thinks.

The fact of the matter is this. When this squad was required to get results when it mattered most, they did it. From the ‘must win’ Glasgow Derby matches to coming from behind at Celtic Park against Ross County, this side have dug deep at every time of asking.

Ange will strengthen, of that there is no doubt. But to suggest that we are losing at this point of the season because the current squad is not good enough is wide of the mark.
