Ange Postecoglou's latest Celtic transfer update; addresses potential exits
Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that Celtic are still after “one or two” more heading into the final week of the transfer window.
Celtic have brought eight players to the football club this summer. The latest being Croatian international Josip Juranovic from Legia Warsaw. All of a sudden, Postecoglou has options in key areas – something Celtic were badly lacking at the beginning of the summer.
At the other side of the revolving door, Celtic have watched the likes of Olivier Ntcham, Scott Brown, Kris Ajer, and Jack Hendry all leave the club. Question marks remain over the long-term futures of the likes of Odsonne Edouard and Ryan Christie.
And as we enter the final seven days of the window, Postecoglou has been providing supporters with an update on where we’re currently at.
Speaking via Celtic TV, the Hoops boss said: “We’re still working hard to bring in one or two, absolutely. The tricky part about this end of the window is you kind of don’t know what outgoings you’re going to have, which might affect things.
“We’ve got contingency plans in place and we’re talking to a number of targets to see what business we can do. But we still need one or two more in the group for sure – that’s what we’ll do.

“What positions? That may depend on who may or may not be leaving, and on that front there’s nothing really concrete that’s happened yet. I expect if anything is going to move, it’s going to start moving in the coming days.”
Fresh Celtic transfer update leads to potential incomings and outgoings
Take from those comments what you will, but in terms of outgoings, it appears that Postecoglou wants final decisions to be made quickly.
Ideally, Celtic aren’t left in the lurch by key players up until the final day of the window. We need, for example, the likes of Ryan Christie to stay on beyond the summer window as things stand. We could ideally do with Edouard making his decision well before deadline day.
Celtic need to give themselves the time to act appropriately to any sudden departures. We should, in all seriousness, have targets lined up for a host of positions. However, the club will have a sound knowledge of who will definitely be staying beyond the window.
At the moment, there are two glaring positions that need strengthening. A new left-back to either compete with or be an upgrade on Greg Taylor would be ideal. The same goes for another centre-forward given the struggles of Leigh Griffiths and Albian Ajeti in recent weeks.
Hopefully, the next seven days go as smoothly as possible from a Celtic perspective. Transfer deadline day can be great for excitement, but it’s stability we need at the club just now, and having all of our most important work done before then will be key.
