New Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou phoned striker Leigh Griffiths this week to chat about his future at the club.
Griffiths struggled at the Bhoys last season. There has been speculation he could leave the club this summer, with Celtic holding an option on the final year of his contract.
However, it seems the new boss was keen to reach out to the striker.
Speaking to Sky Sports this afternoon, the forward said: “I spoke to the manager on Tuesday morning and things seemed positive. We’ll have another chat at the beginning of next week when he’s out of isolation and we’ll take it from there.
“It was a massive thing for him just to give me a phone. He didn’t have to but he took time out his day and gave me his ideas and his plans moving forward. So it was a positive chat, we just need to wait until he’s out of isolation, we’ll have a chat face-to-face and we’ll see where we’re at.
“Every level I’ve played at, I’ve scored. There’s still a lot to come from me, I’m only 30-years-old and I’ve still got a lot of years left.”
Postecoglou could see Griffiths as a stop-gap Celtic option
I’ve written before on this website about how I’ve slowly lost faith in Griffiths. I’ve been a huge fan of his over the years but his lack of fitness and progress last year, for me, spelt the beginning of the end for his career at the Bhoys.
However, with Odsonne Edouard on the verge of leaving the club, Postecoglou could well see the 30-year-old as a stop-gap striking option until we get a replacement in the door.

Certainly, by giving him a call and reaching out, the new boss has indicated that Griffiths can have some sort of role at the Bhoys if he gets his act together.
We know he can score goals consistently. Can he get in the shape and show the attitude required to shine under Postecoglou? That’s another matter, but fingers crossed. We can never write him off completely.
