Ange's brilliant comments on incoming Celtic signings
Ange Postecoglou has given some insight into what he wants from his Celtic signings, with January fast approaching.
The Celtic boss has made some excellent moves already in his time in Glasgow. Experienced players like Joe Hart, Carl Starfelt, Josip Juranovic and Kyogo Furuhashi have provided a real boost. Meanwhile younger prospects like Liel Abada, Liam Scales, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Jota have provided some considerable energy and impetus.
In finding that blend, Ange Postecoglou has stressed the importance of personalities. For each signing he’s wanted, he’s had extensive talks with the players concerned, to gauge whether they’re truly up for the fight.
Ange told media, including 67 Hail Hail, about what he wants from his signings [Celtic FC]: “The one thing I figured out early in my managerial career is that you don’t really sign players, you sign people. Talent is one thing, but their personality, character, all those other things are just as equally important.
“Particularly for the way I want to play.
“There’s a lot of talented players around the world, but what I try to do is bring people with the talent, skills into this environment, that will fit into what we’re trying to create. It’s a lot easier to build team spirit then, as we have, when all the guys are sort like-minded in that way. They’re ambitious, they’ve got a bit of courage, a bit about them that they want to try something different.
“It’s not exact science, but you can identify that by having conversations with the players you want to bring in. For me, that’s vitally important.”
Ange Postecoglou has the right approach to signings, and it’s already serving Celtic well
Considering the vast talent Ange Postecoglou has already brought to Celtic, we’d be remiss not to trust him. The January transfer window will bring inevitable Celtic signings, but not to the unusual quantity we saw in the summer.
It’s also a bit of a warning shot to some already in the squad. Ange Postecoglou will no doubt have had some serious discussions with everyone at the club.
He’ll have wanted to know what their aims are, what they want to achieve with Celtic, and then how they respond to Celtic adding signings. If players don’t raise their game amongst new company, then it’s a bad sign.
Anyone who doesn’t show the mentality required will surely be shipped out.
As for January, though, it’s an exciting one. Of course, Celtic will be linked to all and sundry by the time February starts. But having the mental tools required, as much as skill and talent, is absolutely crucial. Ange wants a united squad who are laser-focused on winning matches and trophies for Celtic.
It’s hard not to be increasingly impressed by Ange Postecoglou.
So far, his Celtic signings have all contributed meaningfully. What comes next could be really exciting for the supporters.
