Everything indicates towards Arne Engels starting Celtic’s crucial Champions League showdown against Young Boys.
On Saturday, Celtic beat Kilmarnock in the Scottish Cup and Engels played over an hour as Brendan Rodgers started his strongest possible XI.
That was a warm-up, build-up and preparation for the big one everyone has been waiting for on Wednesday night.
After a small break, Champions League action returns and Celtic welcome Young Boys to Parkhead knowing that destiny is in their hands if they want to progress to the play-off phase.
Following the conclusion of Tuesday’s games in Europe, the Bhoys are one point above the drop zone and now face a team sitting rock bottom.
But Engles is prepared for it all and understands what it means to the Celtic fans.
What the Celtic players have been doing ‘weeks’ before Young Boys clash
The last time Celtic played in Europe was on December 10, and since then, this Young Boys match and the enormity of it has been building up.
Usually, you hear from managers and players how they take one game at a time and they don’t look beyond the next match.
Well, Engels has shared that the Celtic players have been talking about this Young Boys match for ‘weeks’ now, as he told Celtic TV.

“I am really buzzing to play that game,” said Engels about the Young Boys clash. “Everybody in the team is already talking about it like for a few weeks, so hopefully, it will be an amazing game to play and can’t wait.
“I think we are doing really good in the Champions League. We got the points that we deserved. We are really looking forward to the next game, playing it and performing on the biggest stage, as we showed already a few times in the Champions League.”
Arne Engels stunned by Celtic Park atmosphere on Champions League nights
Champions League nights at Parkhead are off this scale and nobody in Europe can match what Celtic fans produce.
Engels experienced all of this for the first time this season and he shared that the atmosphere has been ‘unbelievable’ to play in.
The Belgium international also admitted that he has ‘never’ heard or experienced anything like it before and he doesn’t need the motivation from the fans to go out there and perform.
“That was unbelievable,” shared Engels about Parkhead’s atmosphere. “I never experienced something like this. Those games I will remember for life.
“I hope it will be even crazier on Wednesday and we can really make a special night of it together with the fans. I think that’s the most important thing. I also think that they can’t wait to see us play and perform.
“I don’t think it really motivated us more (the atmosphere) because it’s the Champions League. You are so motivated already in the week and the days before the game. The energy you get from the crowd is unbelievable. You are so focused and so energetic. You don’t feel the meters you are running. It’s just come by itself because the crowd is pushing you and that is the most special feeling you can feel.”
