It has been a satisfying weekend for Celtic supporters after watching the Bhoys pick up another Scottish Premiership victory.
Arne Engels and Luke McCowan were on the scoresheet in a 2-0 result against Hearts as Brendan Rodgers’ side made it six wins in a row at the start of the 2024/25 season.
Nobody can stop the reigning champions domestically right now and there’s a sense of anticipation about what the team can do on the Champions League stage this week against Slovan Bratislava.
That excitement is not just found amongst fans but the players too.
Kasper Schmeichel ‘can’t wait’ for European night at Celtic
New goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has yet to experience a Champions League occasion in person at Paradise but he is eagerly looking ahead to Wednesday night.
Writing on Instagram after beating Hearts, the shot-stopper said: “The perfect Saturday. Important win today going into a massive week. Can’t wait to experience Celtic Park for the Champions League.”
We could well find out Schmeichel’s true worth to Celtic at this level. He’ll likely be far busier between the sticks than he has been in the Premiership.
He did make a couple of smart stops against the Jam Tarts, helping Celtic equal a 118-year clean sheet record. Hopefully, that shutout trend continues against the Slovakian champions.
Arne Engels had a ‘magical day’
The Belgian midfielder kept it short and sweet on social media after netting his first Celtic goal but made it clear how much his big moment meant to him.
Striker Adam Idah, who almost netted his first goal of the season on Saturday before his finish was ruled offside, is also looking forward to what’s ahead.
He said on Instagram: “Good win today! Thank you to all the fans. Massive week coming up!”
Idah will be desperate to open his account following his permanent switch from Norwich and is certain to get game time against Slovan Bratislava, whether from the start or the bench.
