Former Celtic goalkeeper Artur Boruc reckons that summer signing Maik Nawrocki will come good for the Bhoys despite his disappointing injury setback.
The central defender only managed to make three appearances before being ruled out with a hamstring injury that has ruled him out for months.
Celtic fans have yet to really determine whether or not he will be a successful transfer, though there were promising early signs. Hopes are high that he can be a consistent defensive force when he gets back from injury.
Boruc knows the £4.3m arrival well from his time at Legia Warsaw and reckons the Polish youth international has the talent to succeed in Scotland.
The goalkeeper said [Sunday Post, 24/09 print edition]: “It’s very unfortunate that Maik is injured right now. But I think he can be very successful for Celtic. He has had a good upbringing in football, from his early days in Germany right through.
“He reads the game well and is composed on the ball. He can also tackle. He has been involved in many of the Polish international set-ups and can go further.
“I wish him well at Celtic and think he will do very well. I hope he is back from injury soon and can help the club bring success this season.”
With Cameron Carter-Vickers also out injured, as well as Stephen Welsh, Celtic haven’t had much luck in the central defensive area. Even emergency signing Nat Phillips has had his own issues since arriving as cover.

It’s been left to Liam Scales and Gustaf Lagerbielke to forge a partnership in defence. Over time, it’s expected the principal partnership will be Carter-Vickers and Nawrocki, although Scales is doing his chances of long-term inclusion no harm at all.
Nawrocki is expected to return after Carter-Vickers, who isn’t back himself until next month. So fans will be left waiting on a settled defensive line. Hopefully, in time, we can all see Boruc’s prediction come true.
