Aston Villa knew a win last night over AS Monaco would have put them in a strong position to make the Champions League knockout rounds.
As it happened, however, the Villans seemingly put in one of their worst performances of the season if the fan reaction is anything to go by.
Unai Emery was furious at full-time as he blasted his side’s mentality while also taking blame for playing two strikers from the start in a move which backfired.
It means that Villa will need all hands on deck next week when Celtic come to town.

Aston Villa lost to AS Monaco and fans were livid
The Hoops know a win vs Young Boys will earn a knockout playoff spot but their Premier League opponents want more than that.
Emery wants his squad to make the next round proper without having to see a playoff.
But now Aston Villa’s fanbase have been spooked and are certainly nervous ahead of their matchday eight clash with Brendan Rodgers‘ Celtic.
And they have had their say on social media.
Aston Villa fans are scared to face Celtic in Champions League
One complained: “Celtic will beat this Aston villa, bookmark this,” as another commented: “Hahahahahaha let’s all just beat Bayern and then lose to the worst 2 teams. We ain’t even beating Celtic lool.”
One wrote: “Couldn’t complete a simple pass or take a corner, absolutely shocking. Gonna be tough against Celtic.”
A fourth added: “Absolutely embarrassing performance that. Do that against Celtic and we’ll be out.”
Others sidestepped Celtic as an opponent and instead chose to simply brutalise their squad over what was described as the “worst performance of the season”.
One fan snapped: “Did we even try,” as another moaned: “That was absolutely woeful.”
One punter commented: “That was an absolute embarrassment of a performance,” as a fourth wrote in response to the club’s official tweet: “Well that was comfortably the worst performance of the season lads.”
