"At no stage has the board got in the way"; Ange sends passionate, crystal clear Celtic message
Ange Postecoglou has again been asked about the concept of having a director of football at Celtic.
The role has been much talked about at the club over the last 12 months.
At one point, a director of football was expected to be appointed before the summer with figures such as Fergal Harkin linked with the role.
Ultimately Postecoglou arrived and quickly set about tasking the club with concluding player deals rather than chasing a new structure.
Now, the manager insists changes will be made on his terms. He’s also made it crystal clear he doesn’t see the board as a barrier to what he wants to do at Celtic.
Speaking to BBC Radio Scotland this evening [17:19], the Bhoys boss explained passionately: “I don’t think I’ve ever said there isn’t any clarity and I’ve never said anything about a director of football.

“Do I need one? I need to continue to build a football club and a football team that brings success to this great institution.
“What that entails we’ll deal with in time. What I’ve never done through my whole career is do what other people suggest. I’ll always do what I feel is best for each situation.
“We’ve come through a really hectic period where I think getting a squad together has been the number one priority. Now we get an opportunity to organise a structure around it.
“If I think or I feel changes need to be made we’ll make those changes. At no stage has the board got in the way or anyone at the football club got in the way of me doing anything.”
There you have it. Conspiracy theories be damned. There have been plenty of those flying about since Dom McKay’s departure, not least concerning the idea that Postecoglou is being hamstrung by the board in doing his job.
That, apparently, couldn’t be further from the truth.
Listening to the interview, the manager wasn’t being diplomatic or coy either. He said what he did with passion and conviction. He feels he is being backed at this football club, wholeheartedly.
Honestly? He sounds like a happy man. If he feels he is in control of what he wants to be in control of, maybe that should be good enough for most of us.
