Auston Trusty believes Celtic’s title-winning season deserves its own film and when the defender explains why, he ends up making a stronger point about this championship than many pundits ever could.

Speaking on the U.S. Soccer Podcast, Trusty reflected on a campaign that delivered Celtic the league title and the Scottish Cup. But it was the manner of the league win that clearly stayed with him.

Trusty lived through one of the most dramatic title wins in recent Celtic history as Martin O’Neill’s side chased down Hearts and completed the job on the final day.

Auston Trusty wants a film made about Celtic’s title win over Hearts

Hearts were rooted to the top of the Scottish Premiership table for 36 out of the 38 weeks of the season with Celtic always on their heels.

But when it mattered most, Martin O’Neill’s side were victorious on the final day and Trusty reckons it was an event that is now worthy of a movie.

Trusty told the U.S. Soccer Podcast, “This past season winning the title, winning a cup, but especially the title and the fashion that we did, I’m not sure if you know, but it was a last day title race, and it happened to match up with Hearts, and we ended up winning in like a very movie-like style.

“Yeah, it was like, they’re going to have to make a documentary or a movie about it, because how the season went, and my coach came back after he retired, left and then came back again to win the league. Yeah, it was just a movie type of ending, and we got to a point where it was like 10 games left, and we had to win every single one.

“And so that kind of mindset of having the atmosphere, having the environment of playing for Celtic, playing for such a big club, and then it’s only a winning mentality, only winning is acceptable, and then having to go ahead and do that, which is great, but when you’re building up, building up from a season where you get to a point where you have to win a single game, it’s a certain mindset to switch into.”

Celtic reached a stage where dropping points was no longer an option and Trusty felt every single bit of it.

Supporters knew the pressure was on and it’s clear from Trusty’s comments the Celtic dressing room knew it too.

Martin O’Neill gave Celtic a title story supporters will not forget

Trusty kept coming back to one figure. Out of everything that happened during the campaign, he pointed straight to Martin O’Neill.

Out of everything that happened during the campaign, he pointed straight to Martin O’Neill. The Celtic manager retired, returned and ended the season with the league trophy in his hands.

That is why this title feels different from many that came before it. League wins become part of the record books. But how O’Neill plucked this one out of a bin fire of a season will always be remembered.

Trusty may have been discussing the season casually, but what he is saying is bang on the money.

A final-day title race, a manager returning to finish the job and a squad living with must-win football for weeks is not a season Celtic supporters will forget in a hurry.
