Auston Trusty has provided an update on his fitness after the Celtic defender was subsituted in the USA’s friendly against Portugal.
The centre-back appeared to be holding his leg in pain and was brought off in the closing stages of the 2-0 loss.
Celtic are in action against Dundee on Sunday and, while there are options in the centre-back role, seeing the 27-year-old go down would have had Martin O’Neill and the rest of the squad fearing the worst.
Why do you think Auston Trusty has played his best football under Martin O’Neill this season?
Auston Trusty injury update after USA’s friendly defeat vs Portugal
Trusty took to social media immediately after the game to confirm that the decision to bring him off was precautionary and that he was suffering from cramp.
Addressing his fans on social media after a Celtic fan asked about the extent of his injury, he replied: “Just cramped in both calves at the same time. All good mate, thank you.”
That was Trusty’s sixth appearance for the USMNT and he now seems like a frontrunner to be heading to the 2026 World Cup.
Auston Trusty should start against Dundee
Despite returning from suspension, Trusty was left to settle for a place on the bench as O’Neill decided to persist with Benjamin Arthur and Liam Scales as the two centre-backs.
That resulted in a 2-1 loss against Dundee United and the Hoops’ title race hopes hanging by a thread.
Late goals are the theme for these two sides, but what will the score be?
Although Arthur and Scales haven’t done anything wrong as a pairing, the duo of Trusty and Scales is the more established one that should be preferred.
