Scott Brown’s departure from Ayr United may be described as mutual, but the results made the outcome unavoidable.
Scott Brown has left Ayr United by mutual consent after a run that saw the club slide down the table. The timing of the decision reflects the pressure that had been building.
Ayr United dropped to 8th in the Championship during that period. The drop in position underlines how quickly momentum had been lost.
Brown even admitted that people at the club didn’t want him there after a 1-0 home defeat to Morton on the 23rd of March.
And it seems that those people have got their wish as the Celtic icon departed the coastal club with immediate effect.

Is there a place at Celtic for Scott Brown?
Celtic legend Scott Brown exit driven by results
Brown enjoyed a bright start at the Ayr and even once had them up in contention for promotion to the Scottish Premiership.
And in a statement on Ayr United’s official website, the Championship club said, “Ayr United confirms that Scott Brown and Steven Whittaker have left the club by mutual consent.
“The club wishes to thank them both for their dedication throughout their time at Ayr United and wish them every success for their future careers.
“Training today will be taken by Jamie Murphy, Tommy Tait and Dave Timmins and there will be a further communication regarding an interim position in due course.”
An eight-match winless run sealed Brown’s fate and now the Celtic hero will be looking for a new job in management.
Celtic icon Scott Brown faces harsh managerial reality
Brown’s status as a Celtic legend carries weight, but it does not change the demands of management. The expectations remain the same regardless of reputation.
The term mutual consent often softens the reality. The sequence of results tells the real story.
This is part of the transition Brown faces in his managerial career. The margin for error is small, and results define everything.
Scott Brown’s exit from Ayr United was not unexpected. It was the direct consequence of a run that left no alternative.
