Barry Ferguson and Ian Durrant ‘raging’ at ‘ridiculous’ Celtic stance on Rangers tickets

Barry Ferguson and Ian Durrant have hit out at Celtic’s stance on Rangers’ Glasgow Derby allocation.

The proverbial hit the fan last week when it emerged that Celtic’s demand that the Union Bears aren’t included in their travelling support for the fixture had led to a dispute between the clubs.

As things stand, there will be no Rangers fans in attendance at Celtic Park, due to the Ibrox side’s refusal to accept the condition.

Ferguson and Durrant aren’t happy.

How can we ensure that the Glasgow derby can continue having full allocations after the latest incident?

Barry Ferguson and Ian Durrant: Celtic-Rangers dispute ‘sad’

Ferguson said on the Five Stars VIP Podcast: “There is an SPFL sub-committee making the decision but you have to give Rangers the tickets.

“It will be interesting to see what they come up with.

“I’d be absolutely raging if you don’t get that 2500 allocation. There’s an agreement in place. You’ve got to get the tickets.

“Rangers have got to get the tickets, plain and simple.”

Durrant said: “Celtic are saying they don’t want a certain element – the Union Bears.

“Everybody is going to have to write their names down and say, ‘I’m not in the Union Bears’, to get a ticket. It’s ridiculous.

“Celtic are now pleasing themselves because they don’t want a crowd there. It’s helping them but you are depriving people of going to watch their team.

“It’s quite sad in this day and age, considering we bent over backwards to accommodate 7,500 at Ibrox. It could have been 8,000 with the way they all ran in the doors, right enough.

“We can accommodate them, but they can’t accommodate us? It’s quite sad.”

The SPFL will meet to reach a conclusion on the dispute on Thursday; we should know what the allocation will be shortly later.

The decisions are yours…

In the last derby at Ibrox, members of the Union Bears entered the pitch in balaclavas, charging towards the Celtic fans with missiles. A member of the Parkhead staff was assaulted.

The argument from the other half, you would assume, is that the Green Brigade — the UB’s opposite numbers — will be in attendance at the game.

It’s all very ambiguous, as the unsavoury events of last month’s derby involved fans who weren’t affiliated with either group.

Of course, that afternoon, Celtic were given the full Broomloan Stand at Ibrox, due to the Scottish Cup rules.
