Celtic goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo exposed some seriously disgusting behaviour he endured while playing at Ibrox last weekend.

The back-up number one revealed “30 to 40 objects” were thrown at him during the Celtic vs Rangers game.

According to Sinisalo, he was struck by one of the objects as bottles, lighters, coins, vapes and mugs were launched at him.

Speaking at Friday’s press conference, the keeper said: “I see some mention that there was a bottle thrown at me. It wasn’t just a bottle by the way.

“First of all, I was hit with something, not in my upper body just somewhere in my lower leg. It wasn’t just a bottle, it was lighters, vapes, coins, mugs, all sorts flying.

“When you think of it, let’s say that glass bottle on the pitch hits me or someone else, what happens then? What if it hits you in the eye and you can’t play football after that? That’s the question that we need answers for.”

Rangers boss Barry Ferguson reacts to Viljami Sinisalo’s shocking claims

Rangers’ interim head coach Barry Ferguson has had his say on Sinisalo’s revelation of abuse at Ibrox.

Ferguson said: “You don’t want to see things like that happen.

“I’ve been honest with you when bottles come on. That’s something that I don’t like to see. Obviously, the club are going to take action with it because it can harm a player, hurt a player.

“I’ve seen it in the past with lighters or whatever. I had that issue when I was in Fenerbahce. There was stuff flying past my head. It’s not a nice feeling.

“You’ve got to be careful. You’ve got to watch what you’re doing. You want your supporters to come and support the team. But when you see objects like that getting thrown on, it’s not nice to see.”

The Rangers interim head coach also added he hoped the incident doesn’t stop fans from attending future games.

The last two Old Firm fixtures have seen a large number of away supporters reintroduced, after a spell of no away fans in attendance at any of the Glasgow derbies.

Ferguson said: “The last thing we want to see is fans not being allowed. Because it’s been far too long. I’m just happy that it’s changed and we’ve got fans back in. That’s the last thing you want to see.”

Andy Townsend has revealed the one thing he would like to see happen at a Rangers vs Celtic game.

Fans react to Viljami Sinisalo’s “30-40 objects” claim

Celtic fans have called for action to be taken to prevent similar incidents from happening, with Sinisalo himself noting that it was not the first time.

One fan reacted to the absurd nature of some of the objects Sinisalo claimed had been chucked onto the pitch: “I’m sorry, it’s very serious of course but a mug? A MUG?”

Another supporter suggested the team take strong measures against the abuse: “Next time, the manager needs to lead the team off the pitch.”

While one fan pointed out how widespread the issue is in Scottish football: “It shouldn’t happen at any ground. Just happens every Glasgow derby. Anyone throwing stuff at players should be banned at all football grounds no matter who they support.”
