Barry Ferguson needs a reality check after Celtic & Rangers title claim following Michael Beale’s exit

Michael Beale is out of the door at Rangers after being outclassed by a Brendan Rodgers and Celtic side that’s not even at full strength yet.

Yet, in the summer, there was a lot of talk about what Rangers, amid a spending spree, were going to do in the title race.

That has since hit them in the face, with Celtic holding a seven-point lead at the top of the table, yet, Barry Ferguson was insistent, after Michael Beale’s sacking, that it is ‘still possible’ for Rangers to catch the Treble-winners this season, as he told Go Radio.

Some facts, since Rangers’ return, they have only won one league title and have witnessed Celtic produce greatness by winning Trebles after Trebles.

Added to that, the Premiership title Rangers did win was behind-closed-doors and it took that manager – Steven Gerrard – three years to dethrone Celtic.

So, for anyone at Rangers to think that they can overtake Celtic, who aren’t even at full strength, this season, need a big reality check as to how things have been unfolding for more than the past decade.

Barry Ferguson on the title race

On Rangers not sacking Beale after Celtic defeat costing them the title: “But there is still 31 games to go,” insisted Ferguson.

How four points is catchable, but not seven points: “It’s still possible.”

This could get embarrassing for Rangers

As England legend Stuart Pearce put it, the gulf between Celtic and Rangers is huge.

The next man in the dugout at Rangers is going to have his work cut out because, by the time the next Glasgow derby comes about, the lead at the top could be far bigger.

Then, you have to take on the Bhoys at Celtic Park…well, Rangers’ record at Celtic Park speaks for itself.
