Everyone is counting down to the big one for Celtic in the Champions League.

Celtic welcome Bayern Munich for the first leg of their play-off encounter next Wednesday night, with the winner booking a place in the last-16.

Everyone knows this is going to be an almighty test for Brendan Rodgers and his players, but this is why you play in Europe’s elite competition.

Plus, the revamped Champions League format was introduced to upset the apple cart and Celtic have their chance to do that here.

When the play-off ticket was booked and that final league phase game against Aston Villa concluded, everyone knew it was either going to be Bayern or Real Madrid in the next round.

Either way, it was going to be a test of the highest order, as both clubs have some of the best talents in Europe at their disposal.

One of the biggest names on Bayern’s books is a man very well known to Alistair Johnston and that’s Candidian left-back, Alphonso Davies.

Not that Bayern needed it, but they have been handed a boost a week before they travel to Glasgow.

There has been a lot of talk around Davies’ future – ahead of his contract expiring in the summer – and suggestions that he could move to Real Madrid.

But, on Tuesday, Davies penned a new contract with the German club and you presume it has provided everyone inside the Allianz Arena with a lift.

Will Greg Taylor sign a new Celtic contract?

Whilst Bayern’s left-back pens his future to the club, everyone is waiting to see if Greg Taylor will follow suit because he is heading for the exit door, at this moment in time.

It has been well-documented that Kieran Tierney will return and you wonder if that has had an impact on Taylor’s decision.

He is probably aware that he will have to sit on the bench if Tierney performs at his best, but as of now, his competition for a left-back spot is going to be Jeffrey Schlupp.

Celtic signed Schlupp on deadline day and he has come in to cover that left-hand side until the end of the season.
