Celtic battled to a well-deserved Champions League win over RB Leipzig at Parkhead last night as Brendan Rodgers took another step closer to the play-off places last night.

After going behind to a Christoph Baumgartner opener at Celtic Park, Rodgers’ side battled back to win the game 3-1 and put the Hoops well in contention to qualify from the Champions League group stage.

And what a battle it was. There were plenty of individual battles all over the park as Leipzig tried to contain the likes of Daizen Maeda and Nicolas Kuhn.

But it was Cameron Carter-Vickers who was in the thick of the action as BBC pundits Pat Nevin and James McFadden shared how the Celtic defender made Marco Rose ‘lose the plot’.

Cameron Carter-Vickers ‘steamrollered’ Openda at Celtic Park to infuriate RB Leipzig manager

There was a moment in the second half just before the US defender was subbed off where he battled with Lois Openda and what Carter-Vickers did infuriated Marco Rose.

And it was spotted by the BBC commentating team on Radio Scotland last night.

McFadden said, “Carter-Vickers has just steamrolled through the back of him. No doubt it’s a foul, he doesn’t get it and Openda, you’re always going to get a reaction, Carter-Vickers knows that, he barely touches him.

“Carter-Vickers hits the deck and gets a foul and he just ran through the back of him there.

Nevin: “You know as a centreback don’t you just love that? He basically got a free hit there and leathered right through him.

“Right in front of the referee and got nothing for it. I don’t think any of the RB Leipzig fans agreed with the referee there.”

BBC Commentator: “Marco Rose certainly didn’t. He’s losing the plot down there with the fourth official.”

Cameron Carter-Vickers’ battling Celtic qualities shine through

Carter-Vickers didn’t have his best performance for Celtic against RB Leipzig but even at that, the American was solid enough.

At fault for Leipzig’s opener, Carter-Vickers struggled to contain the German side’s attackers at set pieces at points throughout the match.

However, the Celtic hero still made five defensive actions, two clearances, four ball recoveries and won five of his duels.

Having just returned form injury, the American is slowly getting back to his best for Celtic and will be crucial for Brendan Rodgers’ chances of getting out of the group stage this season.
