BBC pundit’s odd ‘really, really unfair’ comments about Celtic’s financial gap to Rangers

Celtic are Scotland’s most successful and richest club.

Celtic’s financial power has never been more apparent after the Parkhead club reported a healthy £26.9m profit after tax this month.

Participation in the Champions League has earned Celtic a pretty penny which helped to contribute towards those financial results.

Those results have helped Celtic to invest in their first team which in turn has, in turn, led the Hoops to become Scotland’s most successful club after Brendan Rodgers won the club’s 119th trophy against Rangers in the League Cup final this season.

Celtic’s dominance has been ongoing since the Martin O’Neill era began in 2000 and it has led BBC pundit, Ian McCall, to make a ‘really unfair’ claim about the Hoops being the benchmark for Rangers.

BBC man highlight’s Celtic’s benchmark for Rangers as ‘really, really unfair’

McCall told the Scottish Football Podcast [47m], “The problem for Rangers just now, is the benchmark, since I’ve been involved in Scottish football, is Celtic.

“And there’s no comparison just now, and it’s really, really unfair because Celtic, financially and on the pitch, and everyone else, are just miles ahead.

“The good news is it might not take, some people think that’s going to take six years to bridge. That might not happen.

“You have two good windows and you have two terrible windows, as you’ve seen at some of the clubs down south.”

Where Celtic ranks amongst the most successful clubs in the world

In terms of success, that can be measured in many different ways. Many would argue that 15-time Champions League winners, Real Madrid, deserve the title as the world’s most successful club and, to be honest, who would argue with that?

But in terms of simply winning the most trophies in a club’s history both domestic and European, Celtic are up there as one of the most successful clubs on the planet.

Celtic outstrip the likes of Bayern Munich (80), Juventus (71), Manchester United (68) and Liverpool (67) in terms of trophy count.

If Brendan Rodgers can muster up another treble this season, that will take the Hoops to within just two of Al-Ahly’s record and one step closer to being crowned the world’s most successful football club.
