Celtic centre-back Filip Benkovic has told of his despair at being out with an ankle injury.

The on-loan defender has been one of the key men for the Hoops this season since joining the club from Leicester.

However, he suffered the injury in the 3-0 win over Hamilton in January. Boss Brendan Rodgers than confirmed to Sky Sports that the player would miss up to six weeks of action.

Now Benkovic has given his side of the story.

“Up until the injury, everything was super. I was so happy” he said, as reported by the Scottish Sun.

“I have to do all the examinations, then we will know the diagnosis and recovery time. Hopefully I won’t be out for a long time.”

It is understandable why Benkovic is so upset about his injury problem. He is set to miss some big games and sounds desperate to get back on the pitch.

Benkovic has been one of the Hoops’ players of the season so far. He has formed a solid partnership with Dedryck Boyata that has helped Celtic to the top of the league and into the last sixteen of the Europa League.

Sadly for Benkovic, he is set to miss the upcoming Europa League clash with Valencia. His absence will greatly diminish Celtic’s chances of beating the Spanish side.
